Agreement/Genetic Testing – Genetics Working Party

A five-year Pathology Funding Agreement between the Australian Government and the pathology sector came into effect on 1 July 2011. The agreement provides for growth in pathology expenditure of around 5% per year over the life of the agreement. A copy of the Agreement is available on the Department’s website.

A Genetics Working Party is being established to conduct a review of the current genetic testing arrangements in Australia. The Working Party is to provide advice to the Department on possible reforms by 30 December 2012.

The Department of Health and Ageing is seeking consumer representative nominations to be a member of this committee. Travel costs and sitting fees will be covered by the Department.

The committee will meet quarterly until the 30 December 2012 deadline. The first meeting is expected to be scheduled for a full day (10am to 4pm) on 14 December in Sydney.
