Meet the Board of Arthritis & Osteoporosis NSW

President: Mr Allan Ryan
Appointed: 28 March 2012
Bsc (Hons), MEng. Sci., MAICD

Allan Ryan is an expert facilitator who enables organisations, both in Australia and internationally, to deliver real competitive advantage through innovation. In addition to being the founder and Executive Director of Hargraves Institute, Allan is also Executive Director at Managed Innovation International and Adjunct Professor at the UTS Business School. He provides consulting and coaching advice on organisation-wide growth and performance initiatives.

Vice-President: Mr Nigel Corne

Nigel is Chairman and Director of 9D Action Cinemas, Eye Candy Optics and investment company Fujiko Holdings Pty Ltd. He is the former Chairman of the Australian Hotel Association (Accom), the Argyle Hotel Group and former director of AHA NSW, Sydney Convention & Visitors Bureau and Flag International Ltd. Nigel has extensive non-executive committee and management experience in the industries of tourism & hospitality, franchising and trade & investment. He is a former President of Rotary (East Sydney) and has strong experience in resolving conflicting and competing stakeholder needs.

Treasurer: Mr Peter Ricketts

Peter has extensive financial leadership responsibility across various-sized businesses, mostly multinational, and predominantly engaged in manufacturing, industrial, consumer goods and distribution. Peter’s mother has severe arthritis. For this reason and the desire to give back to the community, Peter was pleased with the opportunity to provide his financial and business expertise to the Board.

Director: Prof. Nick Manolios
Appointed: 18 July 2007

Nick is an expert rheumatologist who is in constant contact with arthritis patients. He is also a scientist at the forefront of research and is the Chair of the Arthritis & Osteoporosis NSW Research Sub-committee. He brings to the Board a wealth of knowledge about the needs and concerns of patients and can convey information about medicines, treatments and protocols. He also aims to keep the Board abreast of current and ongoing scientific projects.

Director: Ms Cosi Pupo
Appointed: 19 December 2007
Certificate in Management, Diploma in Counselling

Cosi is a Senior Legal Paraprofessional, has been a member of the Arthritis & Osteoporosis NSW Education Committee since the 1980s – of which she is now Chair – and joined the Board in 2007. Like the members she serves, Cosi is living with a chronic musculoskeletal disease and in constant pain. She is determined to use her own experiences as a positive way forward for others, especially young working adults in the community

Director: Ms Lynn Garlick

Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Arts (Journalism), completing a Doctorate of Creative Arts (Creative Writing)

Lynn is an experienced communication, engagement and consultation professional. She has a depth of expertise in the health, corporate communication and education industries and she has lectured at university in the fields of writing and social work. She is also an International Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA) qualified yoga teacher. Lynn is committed to improving other people’s lives through her role as a director.

Murray is a non-executive company director and chartered accountant with specialist restructuring and insolvency skills. Murray was previously a partner at McGrathNicol and KPMG, having spent over 30 years working with troubled and impaired businesses, and advising banks, corporates and Government. After retiring from professional practice in 2014, Murray commenced non-executive director roles with Slattery Auctions Australia and the Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority. Murray has both personal and family experience with osteoarthritis.

Andrew-MockAndrew is an experienced corporate and commercial lawyer who provides commercial, governance and regulatory advice to clients ranging from start-ups and not-for-profit charities to large multinational organisations. Andrew is passionate about providing his professional skills and expertise to the Board and giving back to the community.
